Ladies and gents, I am on the hunt! I moved into my last apartment this time last year. Now the fates and a carefully worded contract have decided that it is time for me to move on. I am on the prowl for a new apartment. Finally, more space and I can maybe get a four-legged ball of energy to love. "Oh, the excitement," I thought. My boyfriend and I discussed preference of location, amenities and all other things related. We researched endlessly and curated a list of apartments to check out.
We were ready!
The search began, and I was determined to find the 2-bedroom apartment of my dreams. That was until I walked through the threshold of vacant homes; there was definitely a disturbance in the force.
Being an Empath is a unique and divine gift. However, being so intricately connected to the environment around you comes with its trials. I am so incredibly sentient that something as simple as borrowing someone’s clothes or purchasing used vintage home décor can overwhelm and drain me. Walking into an open house filled with other peoples' energy who lived, dined, fought and did god knows what there, is no picnic either.
Every apartment I walked into took me on a magic carpet ride of emotions. Every joyful and heartbreaking moment lingered on the walls, the furniture, the appliances…IT WAS EVERYWHERE. I was genuinely able to feel the good, the bad and the ugly of the rooms. I felt my energy field shrinking and my energy mug overflowing with emotions and thoughts that were not my own. Energy and information download was overwhelming.
The advice I give all Empaths, HSPs, Healers and Introverts relocating and on the hunt for their new resting place is:
- Drink lots of water to protect and ground you. Water is a powerful tool used, not only to hydrate you but to recharge your energy field, strengthen your shield and ward off negative energy. Its optional, but I also like to use elixirs on days and events that require a lot of me. I specifically used a blend with yarrow and red clover essence to reinforce my shield and protect me from intense outside forces. The way I see it, the more the merrier!
- Have crystals everywhere you go. Not only are they beautiful, but they also protect and empower you to take on the day with poise, assertiveness, and integrity. The crystals I had with me during my apartment hunt were: Black Tourmaline for protection, Lapis Lazuli to give me the courage to speak my mind without restraint and to help me with my negotiations with realtors and Amazonite for good luck on my search.
- Follow your intuition, not your checklist. It’s easy to get caught up in the specs and jump the gun when we see the “dream home.” However, not everything is entirely what it seems. It can have the perfect kitchen, beautiful appliances, spacious living room and closets that can second as efficiencies; but if the energy does not feel right and your intuition tells you to look elsewhere, don’t ignore it! Use that list solely as a guide because, when all is said and done, you can put a price on an apartment and its specs, but you cannot put a price on peace of mind and positive vibrations in a home.
Though the apartments I saw met my search criteria, none of them felt right. I couldn’t envision myself creating a sacred space for myself in a lot of residences I saw, no matter how beautiful and spacious. Eventually, my boyfriend and I were able to find the perfect apartment. A 2-bedroom sanctuary that was brand spanking new and never been lived in. The moment I walked in I knew this was the one. The energy was clean and inviting. There were no lingering words left in the bedroom and no one else’s memories written within the walls. It was the blank canvas I had been looking for. It was my new home!
